Hobart football led for most of the afternoon but fell 14-10 at Brockport after the Golden Eagles scored the go-ahead touchdown with just over two minutes remaining in Saturday’s nonconference matchup.
The game was dominated by defense. Hobart senior safety Alex Smith recorded 10 tackles and an interception, while Brockport linebacker Luca Friedman led all players with 11 stops and a sack. The Statesmen moved the ball primarily through the air as quarterback Aidan Conrath went 14-for-31 for 170 yards. Marcus Peterson caught four passes for a game-high 91 yards, but Hobart managed only 44 rushing yards.
Brockport leaned heavily on Isaiah Simmons, who rushed for 156 yards and both Golden Eagle touchdowns. Hobart opened the scoring on a 2-yard run from Tru Styles in the first quarter and added a 29-yard field goal by Luke Monteyne to lead 10-7 at halftime. The defenses held through a scoreless third quarter before Simmons capped an eight-play, 90-yard drive with a 4-yard run late in the fourth to seal the comeback.
Hobart (0-2) returns home on Saturday, September 20, for its home opener against Utica at Boswell Field at Urick Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
