Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new statewide training program to support first responders’ mental health.
The training is aimed at helping mental health professionals better understand and treat emergency personnel.
Officials said the online course focuses on first responder culture, common stressors and barriers to seeking care.
The one-hour training includes five modules covering topics such as workplace challenges, health disparities and strategies for engagement.
The program draws on a statewide assessment that surveyed more than 6,000 first responders.
Officials said participants who complete the training can receive continuing education credits.
Governor Hochul said, “First responders do more than put their lives on the line; they also put them on hold, prioritizing the safety and wellbeing of New Yorkers every single day.”
