Cornell men’s hockey clinched its 27th Ivy League title Saturday, though the ninth-ranked Big Red dropped a 4-1 road decision to Union at M&T Bank Center. Cornell secured the championship when Brown defeated Dartmouth later in the evening, marking the program’s sixth Ivy crown in the last eight seasons.

Union controlled the matchup early, with Ben Muthersbaugh scoring twice to lead the Garnet Chargers. He opened the scoring late in the first period and added another just over a minute into the second, giving Union a 2-0 lead. Nate Hanley extended the margin midway through the second period, prompting a goaltending change for Cornell. Freshman Alexis Cournoyer made 15 saves before senior Remington Keopple entered in relief and stopped all 17 shots he faced.
Cornell’s lone goal came with 2:39 remaining in regulation when Charlie Major finished a rebound chance, assisted by Xavier Veilleux and Ryan Walsh. Parker Lindauer later sealed the win with an empty-net goal in the final seconds. Union goaltender Cameron Korpi made 28 saves to secure the victory.
The loss left Cornell at 17-7-1 overall and 12-5-1 in ECAC Hockey play, while Union improved to 18-10-2. Despite the setback, the Big Red’s Ivy League championship reflects another strong season, adding to a stretch that has produced 12 league titles since 2002.
