Hochul says US Postal Service should withdraw election rule

Gov. Kathy Hochul joined eight other Democratic governors in calling on the U.S. Postal Service to withdraw a proposed rule tied to President Donald Trump’s election order, according to the Associated Press.

The rule would help implement a March order directing federal agencies to create state-by-state citizenship lists and potentially limit who can receive ballots by mail.

A federal judge has already blocked the order, ruling the president does not have authority to set election rules reserved for states and Congress.

The governors said the USPS plan could complicate voting, undermine trust in elections and give the Postal Service too much power over ballot delivery.

Postal workers have also pushed back, saying their role is to move mail, not verify voter eligibility.
