Search in 1973 Watkins Glen missing persons case finds no evidence

A coordinated search tied to the 1973 disappearance of two teens who were headed to Summer Jam in Watkins Glen did not turn up evidence, according to a case update from law enforcement.

Bonita "Bonnie" Bickwit, 15, and Mitchel "Mitch" Weiser, 16, left Narrowsburg in Sullivan County on July 27, 1973, to attend the concert in Watkins Glen and were reported missing after they did not return home.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office said a coordinated search was conducted June 19, 2026, with New York State Police on a property in Steuben County after law enforcement received a tip.

Despite an extensive search of the area, the operation produced negative results, according to the update. The Town of Wayne Highway Department assisted at the scene.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and State Police said they remain committed to pursuing leads in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sullivan County Sheriff's Office Detective Cintron at 845-807-0849 or New York State Police Troop F Communications at 845-344-5300.
