Hochul expected to sign gas hookup repeal

A key climate bill that ends mandatory gas hookups within 100 feet of existing lines is now on Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk — and likely to become law, according to Spectrum News.

Sen. Liz Krueger, the bill’s sponsor, says Hochul may tweak the timeline but supports the core policy. The measure, once part of the NY HEAT Act, aims to ease utility costs by ending ratepayer-funded gas extensions.

Critics, like Assemblymember Phil Palmesano, warn the repeal could drive up costs for remaining gas users. With Hochul eyeing re-election and GOP attacks mounting, analysts say this decision could shape her climate credibility.
