First responders were able to make verbal contact with Ulci while rescue teams prepared to reach him on the bay.

Wolcott Fire Department crews entered the ice while Alton Fire Department launched an air boat. Five Alton firefighters aboard the air boat reached Ulci and pulled him from the water.

Rescuers brought him back to shore and transferred him to Wayne County EMS. He was then taken to Newark Wayne Hospital for treatment.

Several agencies assisted in the response, including the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, North Rose Fire Department, Wolcott Fire Department, Alton Fire Department, Sodus Point Fire Department, Wayne County EMS, Silver Waters EMS, and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.
