Concerns about massive AI data centers are driving a new regional discussion, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Sustainable Finger Lakes will host a webinar panel today to examine how large facilities could affect electricity prices, water supplies and local communities.
Speakers include Assemblywoman Anna Kelles, who sponsors a proposed moratorium on data center development in New York, along with advocates and organizers tracking projects in the Finger Lakes.
The online event will also discuss a proposed 400-megawatt hyperscale AI data center planned near Cayuga Lake. Organizers say the forum aims to inform residents and explore potential environmental and economic impacts.
