Man crashes Jeep into Hornell Aldi after domestic dispute

A Rochester man was arrested after allegedly fleeing a domestic dispute and crashing his vehicle into an Aldi grocery store in Hornellsville early last week.

According to New York State Police, 30-year-old Markiest D. Hartfield was involved in a physical altercation at a home on Seneca Road North around 3:45 a.m. on October 22. As troopers were heading to the scene, they were informed the suspect had left in a vehicle.

Minutes later, dispatchers received another call reporting that a vehicle had crashed into the Aldi store at 1191 County Route 66. When troopers arrived, they found a 2024 Jeep that had smashed through the exterior brick wall of the building and landed on its driver’s side. The vehicle was unoccupied.

Troopers soon found a man nearby who matched the suspect’s description. He was identified as Hartfield and detained without injury, according to EMS personnel on site.

Investigators later determined the original domestic incident involved two victims. Following the investigation, Hartfield was arrested and charged with two counts of assault in the third degree, criminal mischief in the fourth degree, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

He was processed at the State Police barracks in Hornell and taken to the Steuben County Jail for arraignment.
