NYSDOT still looking for snow plow drivers, but openings won’t impact roads thanks to smart planning

It’s the middle of winter and the state Department of Transportation is still looking for snow plow drivers.

Officials say there are openings across the state- and if you’ve driven along the Thruway in recent weeks- the signs have been present.

While the Finger Lakes and Central New York has not seen the amount of snowfall many are accustomed to in an Upstate New York winter- places like Western New York are seeing significant snow in form of lake effect.

That means deploying teams and moving existing snowplow drivers around as necessary to ensure coverage is right for each weather event.

“The Department of Transportation is a great place to work. We offer competitive benefits packages. Stability that other industries don’t offer, and a lot of growth opportunities, and you know we want to make sure people who are looking for jobs know that,” an official told News10NBC about the prospect of openings. “We can confidently say we have plenty of resources, plenty of staff to make sure that the roads are clear.”

That said, don’t worry- DOT officials say they have plenty of staff to ensure that all roads are kept clear for the remainder of winter.
