Keuka College has promoted Daniel Steve, a 2021 graduate, to head baseball coach for the Wolves. Steve spent the past two seasons as the team's pitching coach under Matt Michalski, who resigned this summer to pursue options outside coaching.
The college announced the move July 10 through its Department of Athletics.
Steve said Keuka College had a major impact on him as both a student-athlete and coach, and called the opportunity to lead the program an honor.
Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Jon Accardi said Steve's knowledge of the college and baseball program, recruiting ability and fit within the department stood out during the process. Accardi also credited Michalski for helping move the program forward.
Steve was a standout pitcher for Keuka College. He helped the Wolves set the team wins record in 2019, ranks 10th in career earned run average and is tied for ninth in career strikeouts.
Steve earned first-team All-North Eastern Athletic Conference honors in 2019 after setting the program's single-season earned run average record at 2.75. As an undergraduate management major, he also earned North Eastern Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete and Empire 8 President's List honors.
After graduation, Steve played professionally in the Pecos Professional Baseball League and was named an all-star in 2021.
Steve began coaching in fall 2021 and spent three seasons as an assistant at Tompkins Cortland Community College. He also served three seasons as head coach of the Newark Pilots in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League before returning to Keuka College as pitching coach ahead of the 2025 season.
