Sodus Point mayor says officials will review Blow-Off Day after disturbance

Sodus Point Mayor Pat Nolan says village, town and law enforcement officials will meet with the organizer of Blow-Off Day after a disturbance at the independently run event. Nolan said law enforcement officers assigned to the event responded immediately, brought the situation under control and apprehended those involved.

The investigation remains ongoing under Wayne County Sheriff Rob Milby and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Nolan said in a July 10 village bulletin.

Nolan said he plans to meet in the coming days with Milby, Town Supervisor Scott Johnson and the event organizer to discuss the future of Blow-Off Day. He said the event is not affiliated with the Village of Sodus Point or any other government agency.

The village's priority, Nolan said, is to protect residents and visitors while minimizing the impact on county and local emergency resources.

The mayor also thanked first responders who worked during the Fourth of July weekend and the days that followed. He also thanked the Neighborhood Association for a kiddie parade, the lighthouse for a 5K race and Chris Santelli for a fireworks show.

Nolan said the village Public Works Department is maintaining flower baskets, municipal lawns, water and sewer systems and REDI project gardens. The village crew is expected to repave all of Lake Road at the end of August, with more information to be shared at meetings and in future public announcements.

Village Hall staff reminded residents that tax payments can still be made with a penalty. Water and sewer bills have been mailed and are due July 31 without penalty.

Nolan said the Planning and Zoning boards are continuing joint workshops with the Village Board and village attorney to review local law amendments.
