Auburn woman sentenced to 10 years in double stabbing case

An Auburn woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a double stabbing in the city last year, prosecutors said. Kelly M. Vroman, 40, also received five years of post-release supervision, according to the Cayuga County District Attorney's Office.

District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci said Vroman was sentenced July 10 in Cayuga County Court before Judge Steven Buschman.

Vroman pleaded guilty April 16 before Judge Thomas G. Leone to attempted first-degree assault, a class C violent felony, and second-degree assault, a class D violent felony.

Prosecutors said the charges stemmed from a May 20, 2025 incident in Auburn. During her plea, Vroman admitted that she attempted to cause serious physical injury to one victim by stabbing her in the abdomen with a knife and intentionally caused physical injury to a second victim by stabbing her with the same knife.

Auburn police and emergency medical technicians responded to the scene and rendered aid to the victims, prosecutors said.

The first victim was hospitalized for several days but did not suffer permanent internal injuries. The second victim was released from the hospital the next day.

Police found Vroman hiding in the attic of her residence about two hours after the stabbings, according to the district attorney's office.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Courtney Venditte and Special Counsel to the District Attorney Mark Moody.
