Ontario County officials are exploring how to manage organic and solid waste after the county landfill closes in December 2028, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The county received seven responses to a request for possible solutions, though officials said only Fetch Waste Solutions fully addressed the requested costs, timeline and implementation details.
Other submissions came from Casella Waste Services, Waste Management and several firms focused on recycling, planning and emerging technologies.
A Board of Supervisors committee favored having the county’s solid-waste and economic-development directors continue discussions, potentially with a private developer.
Officials said the process should initially focus on Ontario County’s waste but could expand regionally if doing so would benefit local residents.
