Ontario County sheriff’s sergeant retires after 17 years

An Ontario County Sheriff's Office sergeant has completed his final tour of duty after 17 years with the agency.

Sgt. Cory Herendeen retired after a career that began in 2009, when he joined the Sheriff's Office road patrol following service in the United States Army, according to the agency.

The Sheriff's Office said Herendeen served in several roles during his career, including general topics instructor, firearms instructor and field training officer. He also served on the Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, where he trained and operated as a sniper.

Herendeen was promoted to sergeant in May 2019 and supervised C Tour. The agency said he also helped oversee its Axon body-worn camera program and radar/lidar program.

While retiring from the Sheriff's Office, Herendeen remains an active member of the United States Army Reserve, where he serves as a first sergeant.
