Amazon has quietly bumped up the Fire HD 10 tablet with a handy memory increase. The updated 32GB model now has 4GB of RAM rather than the previous 3GB, which should help the tablet to deal with app switching and general multitasking a little better. However, the update does not include a new processor, display, camera system or battery design. The tablet still has a 10.1-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 × 1200, a 2.0GHz octa-core processor, expandable microSD storage and up to 13 hours of battery life. The new 32GB model will cost $154.99, while the older 3GB RAM model is priced at $139.99. Interestingly, the 64GB version also comes with 3GB of RAM. So the refreshed 32GB model is a strange but useful upgrade for buyers looking for better day-to-day performance without moving up to a more expensive tablet category.
More RAM Brings Better Performance for everyday things
The biggest change to the refreshed Amazon Fire HD 10 is the bump from 3GB to 4GB of RAM on the 32GB storage model. Additional RAM allows the tablet to maintain more app data in memory, reducing the need to reload supported apps when switching between them. The improvements should be most noticeable when doing everyday tasks like browsing the web, streaming entertainment, checking email, reading, and switching between different applications. But buyers should be aware that the processor is the same, so this is a memory upgrade and not a complete performance redesign. The device still features the same 2.0GHz octa-core processor as the existing generation. The additional memory makes the new model more appealing than the old 3GB configuration for everyday entertainment and light productivity work.
Display, Battery and Storage Stay the Same
Amazon has largely kept the same hardware in the Fire HD 10. The tablet still has a 10.1-inch Full HD display and a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels. Good for movies, streaming shows, digital content, and general web browsing, this screen still holds up well. Battery life is still rated at up to 13 hours depending on use and settings. Storage is another practical feature as the tablet supports expandable storage with a microSD card. The current generation Fire HD 10 also supports a stylus and an optional Bluetooth keyboard case. Those features make it good for entertainment, note taking, simple writing and light productivity. That extra RAM helps out in one important area, but keeps the same design and core specs as the existing model.
Price Hike and Difference between storage variants
The price for the better memory is higher. The new Fire HD 10 with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM is priced at $154.99, up from $139.99 for the previous 32GB model with 3GB RAM. Buyers will be paying $15 extra for the extra memory. Another relevant detail is that the 64GB storage variant is still listed with 3GB of RAM – making the 32GB variant an oddity by having less internal storage but more system memory. So buyers should choose according to their needs. People who tend to jump around between apps might like the 4GB RAM model, while people who keep lots of files offline might like the extra built-in storage. Expandable microSD support also does a lot to mitigate the limitation of having to settle for just 32GB internal storage.
