A long-overdue state budget could finally land next week, according to Spectrum News 1, as Kathy Hochul said talks will stretch through the weekend with staff working nonstop.
Lawmakers return to Albany Monday, and Hochul expects leaders to brief their conferences before any final agreement. The budget already missed its April 1 deadline, marking her fifth straight late plan and risking the latest finish since 2010.
She’s holding firm against sending more aid to New York City but hasn’t ruled out expanding a proposed tax on luxury second homes to upstate cities. Discussions also continue on utility rebates, climate policies, and possible tweaks to school funding formulas.
