Rochester woman charged with DWI after early morning stop in Palmyra

A speeding vehicle moving through a 30 mph zone in the early morning hours Saturday led to a DWI arrest in the Village of Palmyra, police said.

An officer initiated a traffic stop just after 2 a.m., triggering an investigation that resulted in multiple charges after authorities determined the driver was intoxicated.

The Palmyra Police Department reported that Emily Carpenter, 34, of Rochester, was arrested following the stop on May 2 at approximately 2:08 a.m.

Police said Carpenter was observed traveling at a high rate of speed before being pulled over. During the investigation, she was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated and later submitted to a chemical breath test that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.13%, above the legal limit in New York.

Carpenter was charged with speed in zone, having an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content above 0.08%, and driving while intoxicated.

She was processed by the Palmyra Police Department and is scheduled to appear in Village of Palmyra Court at a later date. Authorities noted the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the incident.
