Newark DRI projects move slowly forward

Big redevelopment plans in Newark are inching ahead, but patience is key, according to the Finger Lakes Times, as Mayor Jonathan Taylor says progress under the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative takes time.

The largest project, Coventry Commons, will turn a former factory into 101 apartments, though contamination issues have delayed timelines. Other efforts include new apartments at a former hospital site and a major canalfront upgrade with an amphitheater, now pushed to 2027.

A $16.7 million health and wellness center remains on track despite losing a partner. One project — a proposed canalside hotel — has been scrapped after failing to secure financing.
