Big redevelopment plans in Newark are inching ahead, but patience is key, according to the Finger Lakes Times, as Mayor Jonathan Taylor says progress under the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative takes time.
The largest project, Coventry Commons, will turn a former factory into 101 apartments, though contamination issues have delayed timelines. Other efforts include new apartments at a former hospital site and a major canalfront upgrade with an amphitheater, now pushed to 2027.
A $16.7 million health and wellness center remains on track despite losing a partner. One project — a proposed canalside hotel — has been scrapped after failing to secure financing.
