A sitting Geneva councilor facing felony drug charges wants his case fast-tracked to grand jury, according to the Finger Lakes Times. Ahmad Whitfield made the request during his second appearance in Town Court on Wednesday.
State Police arrested Whitfield Jan. 7 and charged him with second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of third-degree criminal possession. His attorney said prosecutors turned over substantial evidence and asked to move the case forward through Superior Court Information.
Whitfield hasn’t attended City Council meetings since his arrest. Mayor Jim Cecere urged him to consider stepping down, but Whitfield hasn’t said whether he’ll resign.
