A boost in state school funding could hit most Cayuga County classrooms next year, according to The Citizen, as Gov. Kathy Hochul rolled out her new budget plan.
Her $260 billion proposal sets aside $39.3 billion for education aid statewide, sending more money to nearly every Cayuga County-area district. Most districts would see at least a 1% foundation aid increase, while Auburn and Port Byron would get bigger bumps.
Several districts, including Southern Cayuga, Moravia, and Cato-Meridian, would see total aid jump more than 3%. Auburn’s total aid would climb to $68.5 million.
A few districts, including Skaneateles and Weedsport, would receive less overall due to drops in building and transportation aid. Lawmakers could still adjust the numbers.
