Lawsuit seeks to stop Micron build despite groundbreaking

A legal challenge is trying to hit pause on Micron’s massive Central New York project just days after groundbreaking, according to Spectrum News. Opponents filed suit in state Supreme Court to block construction of the chipmaking facility in Clay.

The lawsuit comes from Neighbors for a Better Micron and Jobs to Move America, who argue Onondaga County rushed its environmental review. They claim officials shortchanged public comment and failed to fully address forever chemicals, greenhouse gas emissions, and wetland loss.

The suit asks the court to void the final environmental impact statement and cancel permits issued to Micron Technology. Micron broke ground Friday, with construction expected to continue through 2045.
