A late-night vote pulled global politics into City Hall, according to The Ithaca Voice. The Ithaca Common Council approved a resolution condemning U.S. military action in Venezuela days after President Nicolás Maduro was captured.
The resolution denounces foreign intervention and rejects any effort by the U.S. to occupy or administer another country. Reports cited dozens killed and homes destroyed after strikes hit targets, including in Caracas. Alderperson Kayla Matos introduced the measure.
The council passed it 9–1, with one abstention. Some members questioned weighing in on international issues, while others said residents expect local leaders to take moral positions beyond city borders.
