Ex-troopers union head admits theft

A former law enforcement union leader admitted to stealing from the organization he once led, according to Spectrum News 1.

Thomas Mungeer, the ex-president of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association, pleaded guilty to grand larceny for misusing union funds over several years. Prosecutors said the thefts happened while he served as union president between 2018 and 2022.

The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Mungeer must repay more than $25,000 and serve probation. If he complies, the charge could be reduced to petit larceny. The union called his actions a deep betrayal and said it’s focused on restoring trust and oversight.
