Suspicious explosives found at Waterloo residence

Investigators discovered suspected explosives at a residence in the Town of Waterloo on March 13, prompting a response from a regional bomb squad.

The items, believed to include multiple full-size sticks of dynamite and a live grenade, were found around 11:30 a.m. at a home on Brewer Road, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Hazardous Device Squad were called to the scene as a precaution.

The explosives were removed from the residence by the bomb squad, along with about 20 pounds of gunpowder.

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office K9 Frank, certified in explosive detection, also assisted at the scene.

Investigators said the incident was isolated to the residence and determined there was no direct threat to the community.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, North Seneca Ambulance and the Seneca County Department of Emergency Management also assisted with the investigation.
