The Trump Administration said the Department of Health and Human Services will pause $10 million in social services funding to several Democratic-led states, including New York. The move could hit child care programs just as the 2026 legislative session begins.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said her office hasn’t received formal notice but vowed to fight the pause if it moves forward. Advocates warned federal dollars fund nearly half of New York’s Child Care Assistance Program and delays could hurt families quickly.
