Deputies arrested a man after investigating a welfare check that led to a violation of an order of protection in the Town of Niles.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as Jon S. Tanner, 65, of Niles.
Deputies responded Dec. 16 to a complaint about a person sleeping in a vehicle. Deputies located Tanner and confirmed he was in good health.
During the investigation, deputies determined Tanner had a full stay-away order of protection against him. Deputies said he had recently communicated with the protected party by text message and phone call.
Deputies arrested Tanner and transported him to the Public Safety Building for processing. He was later turned over to Cayuga County Jail staff for arraignment.
Tanner was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to Niles Town Court on Jan. 15.
