Mail theft conspiracy leads to probation

A late-night theft outside a Cheektowaga postal facility ended with a federal sentence for a Buffalo man involved in a mail theft conspiracy.

Lamor Runell Bolden, 27, was sentenced to two years of probation, including six months of home detention, after his conviction for conspiracy to commit mail theft, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced.

Prosecutors said the case stems from an incident around 1 a.m. on Oct. 2, when Bolden conspired with Eric Michael Robinson and Antonio Jones Jr. to steal mail from blue collection boxes in Cheektowaga.

Investigators said Robinson drove the group to a postal facility, parked behind a row of mailboxes, and waited while Jones opened the boxes using a stolen postal key. Authorities said Jones removed mail while Bolden stood watch before the group left the scene.

Law enforcement stopped the vehicle a short time later. Officers found opened and unopened mail inside the car, according to prosecutors.

Bolden also admitted that he and his co-conspirators used the stolen key to open mailboxes at other locations across the Western District of New York. Robinson and Jones were previously convicted in the case.

U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr. imposed the sentence following an investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Cheektowaga Police Department.
