Blakeman leads GOP field now that Stefanik is out

Lower taxes, tougher public safety, and open support for Donald Trump anchored Bruce Blakeman’s first speech as the lone Republican running for New York governor, according to Spectrum News 1. Speaking at a Oneida County fundraiser, the Nassau County executive said he’d run state government like a business and pointed to his no-tax-increase record.

Blakeman also pledged to end New York’s sanctuary policies and work with ICE, saying he’s carried that message to voters across the state. He entered the spotlight after Elise Stefanik exited the race.

Political strategists say the shift reshapes Gov. Kathy Hochul’s path, with some arguing Blakeman’s lower name recognition gives Democrats an opening to define the race early.
