Police: Child ingested cocaine left out in Geneva home

A Geneva man is facing child endangerment charges after police say a 13-year-old ingested cocaine left out in a kitchen.

Officers responded to a home on Cherry Street around 3 p.m. Monday to assist Finger Lakes Ambulance. According to police, the child had accessed the cocaine while inside the residence.

Eric Benjamin Guthrie, 50, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Investigators say Guthrie — a convicted felon — left the drugs in an area accessible to both minors living in the home.

Medics evaluated both children at the scene and released them to family members. The Ontario County Child Protection Agency is also involved in the case.

Guthrie was processed and taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment. He was later released without bail and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
