State Police have confirmed that human remains found in a wooded area in Oswego County belong to a man who vanished more than a decade ago.
The remains were identified as John T. Humphrey, a U.S. Army veteran who was last seen in 2012 walking along Route 104 near the New Haven Fire Department.
A property owner on Darrow Road discovered the remains on September 1 while clearing a trail through the woods. DNA testing confirmed the identity.
Humphrey was 48 when he disappeared after leaving his home at the Sumatra Apartments in Scriba. Despite years of searches and public appeals, he was never found until now.
Police say there are no signs of foul play. The cause of death is still undetermined.
State Police thanked the public and local agencies for their help and offered condolences to Humphrey’s family.
