Geneva man charged in donation jar theft

Police in Geneva say a man with a long history of theft was arrested this week after allegedly stealing a donation jar from a local business.

Jonathan Gabriel Toledo, 27, was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, after officers say he unlawfully entered a business on Castle Street around 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 17.

The business owner told police that a Hispanic male entered the store and took the donation jar. Officers canvassed the area and found Toledo on Exchange Street, matching the suspect’s description.

Investigators say Toledo had previously been told not to enter the business at 118 Castle Street. He was taken into custody and later released without bail following arraignment at the Ontario County Jail.

Repeat offender, ongoing investigation

Police say Toledo has been arrested 14 times in 2024 for a range of offenses, including:

  • Stealing from vehicles
  • Theft from businesses
  • Drug possession

He has also been named a person of interest in several recent car break-ins reported across Geneva over the past three weeks.
