A $14 million solar array in Lansing has received a local property tax break after developers warned it could fail without financial help, according to The Ithaca Voice. The project, run by Genie Solar Energy, will power over 800 homes but faced major uncertainty due to shifting tax laws.
The tax break lowers the project’s property tax burden from a projected $2.4 million to about $874,000 over 25 years. While the savings help offset rising risks, officials noted the project will bring only temporary construction jobs and no long-term employment.
Despite concerns, the project is moving forward, aided by a $1 million federal grant and local labor contracts. Its long-term financial viability remains closely tied to changing state and federal energy policies.
