CIA offers buyouts as Trump admin downsizes federal agencies

The CIA has begun offering buyouts to employees as part of the Trump administration’s push to reduce the federal workforce.

The offer, providing eight months of pay and benefits, mirrors similar programs at other agencies but excludes staff handling high-priority tasks. CIA Director John Ratcliffe emphasized that these changes aim to align the agency with national security goals while fostering new leadership opportunities.

Democratic lawmakers and federal unions have criticized the buyouts as legally questionable, noting Congress has not authorized funding for such initiatives.

Ratcliffe, confirmed as CIA director in January, pledged to avoid politicizing personnel decisions.
