Macedon sergeant resigns amid DWI charges against former Chief Fabian Rivera

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

Following an investigation related to the former Macedon Police Chief Fabian Rivera’s DWI charges, Sergeant Brigette Goodfriend has resigned from the Macedon Police Department. The inquiry stemmed from a November 2023 incident where Rivera, then Chief, was involved in a crash while driving a patrol vehicle and was subsequently charged with DWI in two towns. Court documents revealed that Goodfriend, after reviewing video evidence of the crash, confirmed Rivera’s culpability and later drove him home, where he allegedly drove under the influence again in his personal vehicle.

Rivera resigned the day after his arrest, with his driver’s license suspended for 30 days. During this period, Goodfriend was suspended with pay. The town board, in a recent meeting, announced the completion of their investigation into the incident, although specific findings have yet to be disclosed publicly.

The board also accepted Goodfriend’s resignation, noting her lateral transfer to another law enforcement agency. The community awaits further details as the town promises to release the investigation’s results soon.
