Costco is a place where members shop for items in bulk.
Now though, the company is selling a COVID-19 test for at-home swabbing.
It’s a saliva test and says results can be returned in 24-72 hours.
A telemedicine app delivers results after it’s processed. The company behind that part of the test is known as AZOVA. It’s HIPPA-secure, according to reporting by News10NBC.
Here’s one potential issue: The kit isn’t cheap.
It costs approximately $140, which according to some healthcare providers, means its just as sensible to head to a facility where tests are being administered by professionals.
There’s also the self-reporting mechanism within this process. If an individual tests positive – it’s up to them to report it to public health officials – unlike medical facilities where COVID testing is taking place.
“The saliva testing is as a test itself probably just about as good as the original nasal swab and the big difference is it can be obtained without a second person there so you don’t have to expose anybody,” Rochester Regional Health Infectious disease expert Dr. Anja Bottler told News10NBC.
At this point the test is only available online, and not available in-store.
