The Stranger Things duo is officially packing up their gear and leaving Hawkins behind for a high-stakes world of espionage. Netflix has officially handed a straight-to-series order to an upcoming, untitled spy thriller that will reunite Emmy-nominated co-stars Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour. In a casting move that perfectly honors their collaborative history, the pair will once again share the screen as a father and daughter, though this time, under vastly different, real-world circumstances.
A Disgraced Father and a Missing Daughter
Produced by independent powerhouse A24, the narrative shifts away from supernatural anomalies to focus on a deeply grounded family crisis. The series follows Matt Wolfe (played by Harbour), a disgraced former FBI agent who has spent years working quietly as a private security consultant. His quiet life is violently upended when his estranged daughter, Rebecca (played by Brown), who followed his exact footsteps into the Bureau, suddenly vanishes while executing a dangerous, highly classified mission.
Desperate to locate his daughter, Matt is forced to dust off his old operational skills and venture back into the dark corners of the intelligence community. However, he quickly realizes that the landscape of international espionage has dramatically evolved and shifted since he walked away from it, turning his rescue mission into a complex psychological and tactical maze.
Bringing the A-Team Back Together
The straight-to-series drama will be written and executive produced by acclaimed, Emmy-winning showrunner Jack Thorne, whose recent series Adolescence became a historic hit for the streaming giant. Thorne is also an experienced collaborator with Brown, having previously penned the screenplay for Netflix’s massively successful Enola Holmes franchise.
Both Brown and Harbour are locked in as executive producers for the project. Furthermore, Brown’s husband, Jake Bongiovi, and her father, Robert Brown, are attached to executive produce under their PCMA Productions banner.
“Jack Thorne’s ability to find the deeply human story inside a thriller is unmatched, and watching Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour reunite this time as estranged father and daughter on opposite sides of a crisis is something audiences are going to love.” Jinny Howe, Netflix Head of Scripted Series
Moving Past On-Set Rumors
The announcement serves as a celebratory confirmation of the actors’ enduring creative relationship, effectively putting to rest long-standing industry rumors regarding behind-the-scenes friction during the production of Stranger Things. Having played surrogate father Jim Hopper and psychokinetic child Eleven for nearly a decade, the actors recently addressed past on-set disagreements as a normal, collaborative “rupture-and-repair” dynamic that naturally occurs when working closely with family for ten years.
Production details and a formal filming schedule are expected to be announced in the coming months. This untitled thriller is already positioning itself as one of Netflix’s most highly anticipated flagship dramas. By pairing a gritty A24 aesthetic with a proven, fan-favorite onscreen dynamic, the series promises to deliver a masterclass in tension, emotional depth, and elite espionage storytelling.
