A five-year effort to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity along one of Canandaigua’s busiest corridors will culminate Monday with the official opening of a new footbridge, sidewalk and multi-use pathway near Finger Lakes Community College and CMAC.
Ontario County officials will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. June 22 to mark the completion of the infrastructure project along State Route 364. The project includes a new pedestrian footbridge, approximately 2,400 feet of sidewalk and bike path, upgraded lighting and drainage improvements designed to improve access and safety for residents, students and visitors.
County leaders say the project will create safer connections between Finger Lakes Community College, the City of Canandaigua and the Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, commonly known as CMAC. The pathway is also expected to improve pedestrian movement during major concert events and provide greater public access to FLCC’s trail system.
The project was funded through a combination of public and private investment, including a New York State Transportation Alternatives Program grant and support from the Sands Family Foundation. Officials describe the effort as a model public-private partnership aimed at improving transportation options while enhancing safety and accessibility throughout the community.

Scheduled speakers at the ceremony include Ontario County Administrator Chris DeBolt, Public Works Commissioner Chris Day, state Sen. Pamela Helming, New York State Department of Transportation Regional Director Brad Walike, Canandaigua Town Supervisor Don Cotter and Sands Family Foundation representatives.
The ceremony will take place at 3311 State Route 364 in Canandaigua, near the newly completed crossing and pathway system. Following remarks and the ribbon cutting, officials will be available for interviews with media members.
