Lyons man charged after taking vehicle without permission

A Lyons man was arrested following an investigation into a reported stolen vehicle in Seneca County, according to the Waterloo Police Department.

Michael Gilpin, 29, of Lyons, was arrested June 9 at approximately 10:50 a.m. and charged with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Police said the charge stems from an investigation in which Gilpin allegedly took a vehicle belonging to the victim without permission.

The vehicle was later located after it had been abandoned in the Town of Junius.

Gilpin was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court at a later date.

The Waterloo Police Department was assisted by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office during the investigation.
