A Lyons man was arrested Thursday after deputies said he stole a custom motorcycle seat cover from a bike parked outside the Lyons Department of Motor Vehicles office.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said Rufus W. Hall, 32, of Pearl Street, was taken into custody following an investigation into a reported larceny that occurred outside the DMV in Lyons.

According to deputies, a woman had just parked her motorcycle when Hall allegedly approached the vehicle and smelled the seat before leaving the area. Authorities said he later returned, removed the custom seat cover and ran away.

Deputies located Hall nearby wearing the same clothing seen during the incident. The stolen seat cover, valued at $140, was recovered and returned to its owner.

Hall was transported to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for processing and later taken to the Wayne County Jail for fingerprinting and photographs. He was released with an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court at a later date.
