Motorcyclist seriously injured in Hopewell crash on Route 488

A 19-year-old Lyons man suffered serious injuries Friday afternoon after a motorcycle collided with a vehicle that was turning into a driveway in the Town of Hopewell.

Ontario County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of State Route 488 and Archer Road at about 3:07 p.m. The crash involved a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, according to investigators.

Deputies determined that Sue Sharpe, 79, of Romulus, was driving west on Route 488 and attempting to make a left turn into a residential driveway when she failed to yield to oncoming traffic. Zachary Stone, 19, of Lyons, was traveling east on a motorcycle when he collided with Sharpe’s vehicle.

Stone was transported by Canandaigua Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Sharpe was medically cleared at the scene.

Deputies issued Sharpe a citation for failure to yield the right of way. A portion of Route 488 was closed for about an hour while investigators processed the scene and cleared the roadway.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crash.
