Waterloo man faces felony charges after threatening officer with knife, injuring bystander

A family dispute last week in Waterloo led to multiple felony and misdemeanor charges against a village resident after police said officers were threatened while responding to the scene.

Alex Leonard Drake, 32, of Waterloo, was arrested June 10 on charges including menacing a police officer, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief, third-degree assault, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing governmental administration.

Police said the arrest was made on a warrant following an investigation into the incident.

According to police, officers responded to a residence in the village for a reported family problem and encountered Drake, who threatened responding officers with knives.

Authorities said the incident placed bystanders, including children, at risk. Police also allege Drake damaged property and caused physical injury to a victim while children were present.

Drake was transported to the Seneca County Correctional Facility, where he was held pending centralized arraignment. Orders of protection were requested on behalf of the victims.

The Waterloo Police Department was assisted by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and Seneca Falls Police Department.
