A traffic stop for excessive speed in the Town of Waterloo led to drunken driving charges against a Gowanda man, according to police.
Christian A. Pope, 34, of Gowanda, was arrested June 4 and charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of .18% or higher. Police said the arrest occurred after officers observed Pope traveling 55 mph in a 30 mph zone at approximately 1:04 a.m.
During the stop, officers conducted a roadside investigation and determined Pope was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, according to police. Authorities said testing showed Pope had a blood alcohol content of 0.21%.
Pope was issued uniform traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court at a later date.
