A tense fight over Auburn Superintendent Dr. Misty Slavic’s contract extension spilled into public view Tuesday night, according to The Citizen, with the school board’s vice president resigning from his leadership role during the debate.
Board members approved a two-year extension for Slavic in a 5-4 vote, pushing her contract through 2029 while freezing her salary at $200,850. Critics said board President Jim Van Arsdale rushed the amendment onto the agenda with little notice and limited financial review.
Vice President Matteo Bartolotta stepped down from his officer position over the process but kept his seat on the board. The vote came days before Auburn’s school budget vote and board election on May 19.
