A nearly century-old chemical operation in Waterloo will stop production by June 30, according to the Finger Lakes Times, marking another major industrial shift for Seneca County.
Germany-based Bruno Bock Group said it will end sulfur-based chemical manufacturing at its East Main Street facility but keep the site open as a regional distribution center. The plant currently employs 65 workers, though the company hasn’t said how many jobs will remain after production ends.
The factory traces its roots to the Waterloo Woolen Mill, which opened in 1839 before chemist Ralph Evans transformed the property into Evans Chemetics in 1947. Village leaders said the company plans to maintain a local presence while exploring future opportunities tied to the site’s infrastructure and wastewater system.
