Scipio woman accused of stealing more than $2,000 from Union Springs Dollar General

A Cayuga County woman is facing felony charges after investigators say she stole more than $2,000 while working at a Dollar General store in Union Springs.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 20-year-old Lillian R. Edgington of Scipio on May 11 following an investigation into reported thefts at the Cayuga Street Dollar General. Asset protection personnel told deputies an employee had allegedly been stealing from the store since Jan. 20, with total losses reaching $2,018.

Authorities said the investigation began after deputies responded to the store April 23 for a reported larceny complaint. Following the investigation, Edgington was charged with first-degree falsifying business records and fourth-degree grand larceny.

According to the sheriff’s office, Edgington later turned herself in at the Cayuga County Public Safety Building after being advised of the charges. She was processed and issued appearance tickets for Springport Town Court.
