A Cato man was taken into custody Monday night after deputies say he violated a court-issued order of protection during a domestic incident investigation.
The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 56-year-old Daniel J. Root of Cato on charges of second-degree criminal contempt and aggravated family offense. Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Town of Cato around 7:31 p.m. May 11 for a reported domestic incident.
According to investigators, deputies learned through Cayuga County 911 that the victim had a full stay-away order of protection against Root. Authorities said Root was allegedly inside the residence with the protected individual before fleeing prior to deputies arriving at the scene.
Deputies said Root was located and taken into custody a short time later. He was transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building for processing before being arraigned in CAP Court. Bail was set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
