Cornell men’s lacrosse rolls past High Point

The Cornell Big Red men’s lacrosse team defeated High Point, 17-9, on Monday at Schoellkopf Field, improving to 8-3 on the season with a dominant non-conference performance. Cornell used an early scoring surge and balanced offensive production to take control, earning its second all-time win over High Point, which fell to 6-6.

Cornell set the tone early after conceding the game’s first goal, responding with eight straight scores to build a commanding lead. Willem Firth led the charge with five goals and three assists, continuing his strong season, while Brian Luzzi added four goals and two assists, including a key stretch in the third quarter that halted any momentum from the visitors. Ryan Goldstein contributed five points of his own, tallying three goals and two assists, as the Big Red offense saw 10 different players register a point.

The Panthers attempted to rally in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 14-6, but Cornell answered each push to maintain control. Matthew Tully anchored the defense with 10 saves before Tim Piacentini closed out the game in the fourth. At the faceoff spot, Jack Cascadden helped dictate possession, winning 15 of 23 draws, while the Big Red held a 38-29 edge in ground balls and converted both man-up opportunities.

Additional scoring came from Walker Schwartz, Jack Herendeen and Rowyn Nurry, each adding two goals. Cornell’s efficiency and depth proved too much, as it pulled away late to secure a convincing victory.
