Seneca Meadows faces Friday deadline

Seneca Meadows has until July 3 to revise its landfill expansion plans, according to the Finger Lakes Times. State regulators granted the company a two-week extension after identifying major gaps in its draft environmental impact statement for a third time.

The Department of Environmental Conservation ordered Seneca Meadows to address 15 issues, including groundwater impacts, traffic mitigation, landfill settlement monitoring and detailed plans for its leachate treatment system. Regulators also questioned the reliability of the project’s groundwater model.

The DEC says it won’t move the review forward until the requested information is submitted. If the application is eventually deemed complete, public hearings will follow on the proposed 47-acre expansion, which would extend the landfill’s life through 2040.
