A legal fight over the former Wells College campus is escalating, according to The Citizen. The Hiawatha Institute for Indigenous Knowledge has sued Wells College after the school canceled the $12.5 million sale of its Aurora property.
The institute argues Wells delayed providing key documents, including utility records and right-of-first-refusal waivers, while ongoing litigation involving the Cayuga Nation prevented the property from having clear title needed to close the deal.
Wells terminated the purchase agreement in June, claiming the institute failed to complete the sale and sought its $500,000 deposit. The lawsuit asks the court to preserve the agreement, and no court dates have been scheduled.
